Being the official press officer for Hampton & Richmond is a bit of a double edged sword. When things are going well, the match reports are easy to write; when such a performance as yesterday’s against Arlesey Town comes along, being stiffed 6-2, then it becomes very tricky.
If I wrote the match report the performance that I believe it warranted, I’d find myself in bother. It would be full of emotive and direct language, which would not be appreciated in the light of the good relationships I’m developing within the club. Although the players would accept the tone, the management all the way up to the chairman might not.
Yet if I’m too diplomatic and make it too bland, I’ll have my fellow supporters on my back for not telling it like it actually was. There’s already dissatisfied rumblings about the team and management within some sections of the fans and I’m not sure how much of that I can go into.
Shall have to think hard about this one.
